BAY CITY, MI – June 24, 2017 – The weather played havoc today in qualifying for the 30th running of the Bay City Grand Prix.
Drivers find the famed Saginaw River course challenging enough, but with heavy rain and challenging river conditions, including flood debris, Greg Foster of California was able to put his Dillard Racing team boat on the pole for tomorrow’s 30th Annual Bay City Grand Prix race.
The rain created a lot of race drama when two boats got together early in the first heat race, including the Detroit Piston’s sponsored boat of Mike Beegle forcing a restart. On the restart, Ashton Rinker got together with another boat at the commitment buoy where he blew his Real Flavor’s Lee Craft up and over severely damaging his boat, all drivers were uninjured.
Florida’s, Terry Rinker, in the iHeart Radio Lee Craft will start second and his eldest son, Ashton Rinker, will start third in the Real Flavor’s Revolution. Tyler Welch of Wayzata, MN will start 4th, and Chris Fairchild of Paw Paw, Illinois rounds out the top five in his Kroger Special.
